Painting for me has always been a several step process.
a. I decide what or who I am going to paint. b. Then comes the research. Reading bios, watching movies and films, television shows, music video's or concerts etc. All the while taking notes of anything that I need to get down. Particular scenes, mood, color, or anything special that I need to work into the painting. c. Layout and math (for placement, light sources, shadows, contrast etc). All 'the Bones' of the painting. I do this by hand, I don't use computer programs or any of that. I like to work with a plan. Yes course corrections and changes may happen when I'm actually painting the painting. But overall I have pretty strong idea of what the painting will be before I ever put a brush to the canvas. d. I paint the painting. |
